Tribunal to rule on Lilydale waste transfer bid
An end to the continuing saga to stop a waste transfer station in Lilydale appears imminent, with affected residents confident they have won the David and Goliath battle.
Lilydale resident Tony King, who heads the residents’ action group, foreshadowed a ruling in favour of the residents at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal after a hearing on Friday, October 29.
“It has been a tough battle but ultimately shows what can be achieved when residents band together and take action,” he said.
In January 2007 Yarra Ranges Council refused an application from Able Demolitions and Excavations to build a refuse transfer station on the Quarry Rd site.
The company has since been locked in a legal battle at the tribunal with the council over its plans for the site.
In 2009, VCAT determined that a planning permit was required for Able to operate a transfer station.
Lilydale resident Jason Ellis said he was relieved that a decision was imminent.
