Gully residents get three-bin system
Tea Tree Gully’s new three-bin system is just three months away.
Each household will receive a new 140-litre general waste bin, which will be collected weekly, and a new 240-litre recycling bin, which will be cleared fortnightly.
Residents will continue to use their green waste bins, which now will be cleared fortnightly instead of monthly.
The council will begin the delivery of 76,000 new bins to households later this month.
The roll-out is expected to take about three months.
“We believe it will be a more efficient and user-friendly system,” the council’s manager of environmental sustainability, Brenton Curtis, said.
Because the system was simpler to use, it was hoped people would more readily recycle, and that would result in less landfill.
“Landfill charges are being increased by the State Government, so a reduced amount of landfill will ultimately save the council and ratepayers money,” Mr Curtis said.
He said residents should continue to use their current split bins until delivery of new bins was completed.
