Waste to be cut in draft plan
The City of Casey Draft Waste Management Strategy 2010-2014 is now on public exhibition.
The strategy replaces the City of Casey’s previous Waste Management Strategy, adopted in 2000, and outlines the waste management activities to be done over next five years.
Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said the new strategy addressed significant changes in state and federal waste management policy, the introduction of new technology and emphasised environmental sustainability.
“The Draft Waste Management Strategy 2010-2014 is the City of Casey’s roadmap to ensure that the municipality meets the waste minimisation targets set by the Victorian Government’s Towards Zero Waste policy, which was adopted in 2005,” she said.
Under the Draft Waste Management Strategy 2010-2014, a number of changes will be made to the council’s waste management practices resulting in a more efficient waste disposal service with a greater emphasis on recycling and less reliance on waste disposal to landfill.
Residents are encouraged to view the draft strategy online or at one of the City of Casey’s customer service centres and provide any feedback in writing by 11 October.
Submissions marked as ‘Waste Management Strategy Submission’ can be forwarded to the City of Casey, PO Box 1000 in Narre Warren, 3805.
